Safety

The safety of our young athletes is our greatest priority. The WBYAA has a Safety Committee that is charged with keeping safety equipment like first aid kits and AEDs at our venues. Additionally, the safety committee seeks to educate our coaches, players, and parents. We periodically offer athletic first responder classes for coaches and parents. We are also looking to make the following course available to all coaches regarding concussions.

Concussion Training: CDC Training Course
This on-line course is offered by the CDC, takes approximately 30 minutes and those pass the course get a certificate of completion. We require all coaches to take this class.

CPR & AED Training: The following videos are

AED Video (Medtronic LifePak 500): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvIPS5iBdbo&NR=1

First Aid Training: Periodically, we have had the Brockton Hospital emergency room physicians to teach an Athletic First Responder Course. Below is a sample of material reviewed at the session. The one evening course includes instruction in sports related injury prevention, with an emphasis on concussion and head injury, sports safety, and bystander CPR and defibrillator (AED) use.
